The 5 steps
How a storm damage claim usually goes. Here so you can read it with no signal — this app's job is holding your photos, receipts and details, not walking you through the process.
Contact your insurance company
Call your homeowner's insurance carrier as soon as possible to report the damage. Have this ready:
- Policyholder's name
- Insurance policy number
- Property address
- Contact phone number
- Brief description of the storm damage
Claim details holds the policy and adjuster information.
Document the damage
Before any cleanup begins, take clear photos of all damaged areas, including:
- Fallen trees
- Roof damage
- Fences, sheds, garages or other structures
- Vehicles or personal property affected by the storm
- Any additional hazards created by the damage
Photos is where these live.
Prevent further damage
Most insurance policies require homeowners to take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage to the property. Emergency tree removal, tarping, and other mitigation measures are often covered for exactly that reason.
- Keep all receipts and documentation for emergency services and temporary repairs
Costs & receipts is built for this. It's the part claims turn on.
Meet with the insurance adjuster
The insurance company will assign an adjuster to inspect the property and assess the damage. NWI Tree Surgeons can provide estimates, photos, invoices and documentation as needed to assist during the claims process.
This is when you hand over your packet.
Complete necessary repairs
Once the claim has been reviewed, repairs and restoration work can begin. If emergency hazards exist, such as trees on structures or blocked access routes, immediate mitigation may be necessary before the adjuster's inspection.
